PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Reporting to Global Transportation Sourcing Manager, the Senior Transportation and Logistics Specialist performs carrier selection, negotiations and vendor management across all modes of transportation for Hospira leveraging transportation spend in support of the internal and external customer requirements.

Responsible for effective vendor management; from the identification of service issues to the implementation of corrective action plans to ensure that transportation is an extension of the quality products and service that Hospira manufactures and distributes to its customers. Provide timely customer service resolution for both internal and external customers.

The Senior Transportation and Logistics Specialist responsible for the identification, development and implementation of transportation service enhancement and cost reduction programs. He/She is accountable for the implementation of cost reduction / avoidance programs. This individual assumes risk in the evaluation of the delicate cost versus service decisions and must rely on experience, critical analysis and sound judgment throughout this process.

Responsible for reacting to and planning for potential service interruptions that result from labor disruptions, acts of war, weather and other natural disasters.

Establish and maintain carrier routings for shipments between distribution centers and public warehouses, manufacturing plants, direct to customers, between vendors and all other points within the Hospira Transportation network.
•
Responsible for the development, analysis and implementation of complex logistics / transportation projects. The Senior Transportation and Logistics Specialist must develop and execute project plans, perform analysis, present results and implement processes that support each organizations business plans.

Promote Hospira as a preferred shipper through strong carrier relationships and contractual agreements and participates in industry and carrier sponsored seminars, focus groups and other activities to influence actions favorable to Hospira.

Identification and implementation of the latest technologies (EDI, Computer Systems, Bar Coding, Parcel Shipping and Manifest Systems) that will improve productivity and operational efficiencies. Take a leadership role to champion ideas and achieve implementation across organizations.
•
Maintain a high level of understanding of legislative, regulatory, economic and technology issues impacting the transportation industry as well as the markets served.
Skills/Experience Education/Certification
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
•
Bachelor’s degree required. Supply Chain or other highly analytical major a plus.
•
5-7 years of experience in Transportation and Logistics services strategic sourcing for a Fortune 500 company with a domestic and international presence (food or pharmaceuticals industries with cold chain and controlled room temperature transportation highly desirable).
•
Contract negotiations experience, North American Customs and Trade compliance, and financial analysis to ensure that negotiated agreements provide the best possible returns for the company preferred.
•
Experience working with SAP or ERP Systems is required.
