Specific Responsibilities
Select, coordinate, and oversee Gilead Global Transportation carriers, programs, and initiatives
Manage strategic relationships with carriers
Support specific commercial drug product transportation requirements
Improve the integration efforts with internal logistic groups and Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs)
Select the Transportation Management System, related technologies, roadmaps, and initiatives
Ensure that the Gilead Logistics organizations have tools and systems that comply with corporate temperature control directives
Specific Required Skills
Expertise in cold chain packaging and transportation service providers
Strong familiarity with Transportation Management System (TMS) and supply chain systems
Experience with import and export brokerage services
Essential Duties and Job Functions Ensure that Gilead Global Transportation strategy meets Gilead’s needs
Ensure that Gilead Global Transportation strategy is best in class and outperforms other Pharmaceutical companies
Organize the Gilead Logistics community
Lead the corporate relationship efforts to support Gilead’s logistics groups, transportation carriers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), and warehouses
Organize and lead the Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), strategy discussions, and resolution-finding efforts
Implement and manage Gilead (and Foster City) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Lead the efforts related to the U.S. Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) technical requirements, imports, and exports
Cooperate with Gilead and other Pharmaceutical and/or Biotech security communities to develop standards and asses best practices
Select and oversee global carrier suppliers
Develop global transportation objectives
Lead the selection, implementation, and maintenance of Transportation Management System (TMS)
Manage and negotiate global service agreements with transportation carriers and ensure that the agreements support Gilead’s policies and standards
Ensure compliance and effective execution by using approved carriers and shipping lanes
Streamline carrier invoice analysis, and payment, by improving automation and process
Support Gilead’s shipments by leading cross-functional teams and improving the oversight
Define the appropriate level of global transportation security and ensure that it is utilized across the transportation supply chain
Implement, or measure, the appropriate security needed to protect the transport of Gilead’s shipments
Define global metrics and rating system for freight carriers, including summary of delivery, damage, and other trends
Work closely with senior management to help interpret and implement temperature and transportation programs and strategies
Act as point-of-contact for general freight and transportation importation issues or resolutions
Knowledge, Experience and Skills 8 years or more relevant experience with MA/MS degree, or 10 years or more relevant experience in related field with BA/BS degree
APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) is preferred
MBA is preferred
Experience in Pharmaceutical operations/cGMP environment is highly desirable
Able to influence and work well with others in a proactive and cooperative manner
Able to develop, analyze, and leverage key transportation metrics to improve overall supply chain performance
Able to lead diverse functional logistics groups and build strong relationships
Able to conduct business across several multi-national sites, carriers, and organizations
Strong communication (verbal and written), organizational, implementation, and leadership skills
