The Principal Engineer will lead cross-functional teams to continuously build and improve operational infrastructure and methodologies for managing global cold-chain transportation needs in Amgen Supply Chain. Apply diverse engineering and management principles to execute streamlined development and qualification of thermal packaging systems based on quality-by-design approaches. This position has responsibilities for technical, people-management, and strategy-setting issues.
The individual will lead the development of thermal shipping systems for both large and small molecules, perform technical assessment and studies, write technical reports, manuals, specifications, SOPs, and bill-of-materials. Lead the day-to-day operation of a small group of thermal engineers, and manage collaborative relationships with internal customers and external partners. Additionally, the individual will develop simulation/models of the systems to allow for rapid evaluation of events and design opportunities. Develop an external presence for influencing Key Opinion leaders and regulators.
This position also carries responsibility in encouraging and promoting the development of innovative, cost effective thermal packaging systems and leveraging industry trends for the advancement of business opportunities at Amgen.
The ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 20%.
Doctorate degree & 2 years of Engineering experience OR Master’s degree & 6 years of Engineering experience OR Bachelor’s degree or & 8 years of Engineering experience OR Associate’s degree & 10 years of Engineering experience OR High school diploma / GED & 12 years of Engineering experience
Degree in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or Applied Physics with 10+ years of work experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Demonstrated leadership in a wide range of manufacturing or supply-chain areas with strong fundamental knowledge on thermal packaging systems, and/or material science, and/or transportation-quality systems.
Demonstrated organizational, project management, technical problem-solving and (written & verbal) communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with a range of technically and culturally diverse people, to influence them to execute for a common goal, and to deliver value-added results that meet high quality requirements within a tight schedule.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a diverse audience, at multiple levels within the company, through various formats (oral and written).
Demonstrated skills in technical presentation, issue organization, and analytical problem solving.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a multitude of projects concurrently.
