Packaging Engineer – Kelly Services – Rochester, NY, USA
Energetic, self motivated packaging engineer who wants be a key member of a team that is developing the next generation of thermal packaging. Will work with advanced materials to create the most innovative and reliable solutions for customers who demand the best products in their respected industries. Expected to balance creative and productive objectives and work well within a diverse team that includes project managers, lab techs, chemists, physicists, mechanical engineers, and biologists.
Customers are from industries including food, life sciences and aerospace. Although we are the sole packaging supplier for insulated containers designed for transportation and storage of temperature sensitive materials to and from the space station, primary focus is currently on biotechs, pharmaceuticals, medical device and diagnostic laboratory customers. This multi-billion dollar “Cold Chain” industry is growing fast and has new regulatory requirements that have elevated thermal packaging to the top of their supply chain needs.
Design, build and analyze packaging specifically designed for the transport of temperature sensitive life science products. Engineers, plans, test and build different product lines from conceptual stages through product life cycle. Works with fiber and plastic corrugated, different plastics and films. Will work with vendors to find the most cost effective solutions. Collaborates with a wide variety of functional areas such as sales, engineering, marketing, operations and quality to develop and provide product specifications.
Analytical – determine key variables and drivers and prove-disprove theories
Design – develop creative designs given specific parameters, re-design with customer feedback
Problem Solving – identify and resolve challenges in a timely manner
Communication – excellent oral and written communication: can present data and solutions to team and customers, can develop proposals for designs or pilot programs, can support and effectively contribute in meetings with sales, marketing and product development teams.
Project Management – must manage multiple projects simultaneously, consistently re-prioritizing while assuming complete responsibility for many. Likes autonomy and accountability
Quality Management – continuous focus on improving and promoting quality of final offerings, demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
Qualifications: 4 year degree in Packaging Science; 5+ years work experience; competency with Microsoft Office and CAD.
