Packaging Engineer – ATCC – Manassas, VA, USA

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for leading the development, validation, implementation and maintenance of packaging specifications utilized in cold chain management, to assure efficient materials at the lowest cost and preserve product integrity throughout the entire supply chain. Direct interaction will be required with external and internal customers as well as current and potential service providers. This position requires analysis of customer requirements, product specifics, distribution and manufacturing locations, transportation routes to determine optimum packaging strategy and identification of packaging costs. The Packaging Engineer initiates and directs validation studies to support of the Business Units and Corporate goals. The incumbent interprets/determines study outcomes to effectively propose and implement appropriate packaging strategies and solutions, and is responsible for maintaining current in the field of Cold Chain distribution. The incumbent will additionally be expected to develop, transfer and support optimal cold chain management workflows. The incumbent actively supports, and complies with all ATCC corporate policies and procedures.
Bachelor’s degree in a Packaging Engineering or similar engineering discipline. A minimum of 6 years’ experience working as a packaging engineer or an engineer with validation experience in packaging/cold chain is required. Experience in cold chain packaging & distribution is a must. Knowledge of Hazardous and Dangerous goods shipping preferred. Demonstrated experience in qualification and validation required. Strong problem solving skills and ability to leverage new materials, technology and processes to solve problems. Experience with Change Management in a cGMP environment is required. Medical Device / Pharma experience a plus.
