Logistics Manager (Biopharmaceuticals, Cold Chain) – Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals – Fremont, CA, USA

- Leads the site Logistics function, defining and setting overall strategy and direction in full alignment and integration with local, US and global operating units. Utilizes proven standards and develops new as the needs arise to achieve both strategic and operational success for BIFI.
- Develops, oversees and directs the implementation of departmental strategies, policies and procedures in accordance with all applicable governing bodies including but not limited to FDA, USDA, DOT, CBP, OSHA, and in alignment with all global, US and local BI Policies, procedures, goals and objectives
- Directs all activities of the Logistics function to enable a world class development and manufacturing site. Implement and administer all systems and processes for maintaining control of 1) inventory, order and transaction accuracy, 2) storage methods and facilities, and 3) domestic and international transportation programs.
- Coaches and develops staff via effective performance and development planning. Manage the performance planning process for all direct reports, including yearly performance reviews.
- Ensures that training and other personal development methods are being utilized for the development of subordinates. Ensures that performance opportunities are pro-actively managed through the Performance Management system.
- Assigns and manages resources, and monitors the performance against the assigned duties. Organizes training – content and opportunities – to ensure staff members are able to properly perform their jobs and operate in a safe and compliant manner.
- Writes and reviews reports, protocols and procedures and prepares same upon request of senior leadership. Performs, documents and reviews change controls and investigations within area of responsibility.
Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or closely related discipline.
- Requires a minimum of six (6) years relevant experience that includes in-depth understanding of Cold Chain Logistics operations, in the Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry.
- Must possess a minimum of five (5) years people management experience.
- Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, FAA, IATA, DOT, Customs and OSHA).
- Must have a working knowledge of Trade Compliance responsibilities, on the import and export sides of the Logistics business.
- Advanced conflict Management and negotiation skills required.
- Advanced change management and influencing skills to drive transformation highly desired.
- Staff and Capacity Modeling preferred.
- Strong goal-setting, team leadership, coaching and development skills needed.
- Strong ability to influence in a team environment and collaborate with peers is a must.
- Should have excellent technical writing ability, and oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking, with a high level of energy and self-motivation.
- Experience / ability to understand and develop procedures and other controlled documents required.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of software packages and technologies used in a typical Logistics operation, specifically Microsoft Office and SAP strongly preferred.
- Physical Demands / Surroundings – Generally works in an office setting under desirable conditions with few or no disagreeable features; however, as required may be required to perform duties in the warehouse which require the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally. In these scenarios, may be required to, push, and pull up to 125 lbs. frequently. Will have extended hours sitting and or walking. May require occasional standing, climbing stairs or ladders. Some domestic and international travel required.
- Visual Demands – Must be able to read and see clearly. Vision clarity with or without correction to read handwritten as well as computer generated documents. Requires frequent writing and use of a computer keyboard and fine finger dexterity for occasional grasping or pinching.
- Attendance / Schedule – Attendance requirements are based on general attendance policies and the needs of the business as set forth by direct manager.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
