Distribution Planning Manager – Illumina, Inc. – San Diego, CA, USA

The Global Distribution Planning team at Illumina is responsible for ensuring supply globally. We optimize our inventory investment, cycle time, and order fulfillment time to meet our customer’s expectations for product delivery. We align supply and demand, manage capacity constraints, and ensure product flow through our global manufacturing and distribution network.
This position serves as a key leader providing support to product line execution, delivery and distribution. Provides input to management; interfaces with demand planning, supply planning, customer service, marketing, sales, manufacturing and logistics managers.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the global team of Distribution Planners who are responsible for creating, maintaining and executing detailed distribution plans to meet customer requirements, optimize inventory and reduce expired inventory
- Analyze finished goods requirements by regional distribution center, develop and implement strategies to optimize safety stocks and minimize inventory obsolescence while ensuring target customer service levels are met, rebalancing inventory as needed
- Monitor back log, expedite supply to ensure customer service levels are met and analyze shortages to determine root cause and work with cross functional teams to implement corrective actions
- When supply is limited, determine where inventory should be stocked to maximize efficiencies and service levels
- Review, resolve and escalate issues that impact global supply
- Ensure effective review of finished goods inventory for excess and obsolescence
- Support new product launches by managing completion of supply chain activities that must occur to ensure movement of initial builds of inventory for launch and sustaining availability
- Ensure data integrity of master data elements which drive Distribution Planning (safety stock, delivery lead-time, minimum order quantities, effectivity dates, etc)
- Build and maintain methodology and tools for ongoing performance analysis, monitor supply chain key performance indicators, publish performance reports, perform root cause analysis, implement action plans, and strive for continuous improvement. (safety stock attainment, backorders, process flow, expiry, etc)
- Ensure effective training programs are in place and provide support for new personnel in addition to development and motivation for distribution planning team
- Provide distribution planning system knowledge support globally
- Define, update and maintain supply chain distribution management policies
- Recommend and implement new or improved distribution planning processes including new software evaluation and implementation
- Participate in developing and implementing departmental goals and objectives and cascade down to individual distribution planners
- Perform other related tasks as required and complete special projects as assigned
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years planning experience with multiple product lines in a multi-site manufacturing environment, ideally with cold chain
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience
- Proficient with MRP, DRP and MPS systems, especially SAP and Rapid Response
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to structure and perform data analysis
- Intermediate to advanced level skills with Microsoft Office suite
- Strong project management skills
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Familiarity with ISO, GMP & SOX regulatory requirements preferred
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of management and to interface well with cross-functional teammates
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required: Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics, Business Administration or Life Sciences disciplines
- APICS certification preferred
