Director, Warehouse and Logistics – Illumina, Inc. – San Diego, CA, USA

Develop and implement strategies to proactively manage the order fulfillment operations through rapid growth, market expansion, and increasing number of sites.
Lead a team consisting of a Distribution Management function who’s primary goal is to efficiently move order and shipment data through the systems, a 3 PL Relationship Manager, and a Logistics Manager who is responsible for freight negotiations and execution to the SLAs.
Through the local site management teams
Establish global processes that support ILMN’s objectives in a cost effective manner
Set KPI, and metrics to monitor and improve performance.
Relationship management, contract negotiations, and operational accountability for the 3PL and Logistics providers.
Ensure compliance with SOX, GMP, ISO, trade compliance and all quality, safety and regulatory requirements
Set the network optimization strategy identifying cost savings, key operating issues, and resolution strategies.
Lead the continued development, implementation, and documentation of best practices across the logistics organization always ensuring suitability for application and meeting customer requirements to include cost-efficient, on-time, and accurate deliveries working with customer service, planning, sales, manufacturing, finance, inventory control, and external (3PL) organizations.
Implement best in practice global transportation cost management strategy.
Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Talent Development activities which include developing training plans with employees to ensure they have the necessary expertise to successfully perform their jobs, provide ongoing guidance to employees, and career counseling to help employees develop and advance in their careers
Performance Management activities include setting performance standards, ensuring employees have appropriate and realistic job goals, providing ongoing feedback about employees’ performance, conducting performance appraisals, including assessing how the employees have performed and how they can improve their performance, developing performance improvement plans if employees’ performance is not adequate and providing rewards for employee accomplishments.
At higher levels of management, establishing and distributing budgets among departments is required.

Requirements:
15+ years related experience including international shipments and cold chain constraints, warehousing & distribution competencies through hands-on experience, multi-site leadership, network strategy development, warehouse management system (WMS) expertise preferably in a Diagnostic environment.
In-depth knowledge of SAP and manufacturing resource planning (MRP) systems, word processing, spreadsheets, project management, Microsoft Excel and Outlook, etc.
Excellent knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), product specifications incoming inspection procedures.
Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills.
Must have the ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to analyze and resolve problems independently.
Must be very detail oriented.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field.
