Director, Logistics – Biogen Idec – Cambridge, MA, USA

Biogen Idec is experiencing significant growth in the global market place across our highly complex portfolio of products. Given the demand and our pursuit of innovation, there is a demand for a new strategic role reporting in to the Commercial Supply Management team. The role is intended to develop Biogen Idec’s long-term trade management and global logistics and capabilities. The successful candidate will:
Lead and facilitate development and execution of global trade management and logistics network strategy and processes, including customs compliance and market licensing.
Lead strategic decisions across functional and business units regarding optimization and expanded capabilities related to logistics and compliance.
Initiate network assessments and cost modeling and drive proposals that balance customer requirements and logistics capabilities in order to achieve the lowest landed cost consistent with operating goals and objectives.
Transparently surfaces network issues, resolving network conflicts and identifying long term capabilities and strategies to optimize business value.
Use knowledge of industry best practices to direct the optimization of logistics and trade management and systems integration to ensure compliance, maximize service, and optimize cost.
Leverage industry best practices and cross-functional collaboration to ensure enterprise compliance with internal Quality Management System and external Transportation, Import and Export requirements and identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of compliance management processes and systems.
Remove organizational barriers and builds relationships with internal and external suppliers and customers to identify and resolve capability gaps and drive strategic alignment in order to optimize service and total landed cost.
This position is able to deal with high levels of ambiguity, anticipates potential risks and develops corresponding contingency plans Builds relationships and works closely with cross functional stakeholders (examples: Finance, Contract Manufacturing, Quality) and external partners to ensure alignment and business optimization.
